Hall Effect System

The essence of the Hall effect: When the carriers in the solid material move in the applied magnetic field, the trajectory shifts due to the Lorentz force, and charge accumulation occurs on both sides of the material, forming an electric field perpendicular to the current direction; Finally, the Lorentz force of the carrier is balanced with the electric field repulsion, thus establishing a stable potential difference on both sides, that namely the Hall voltage.

According to a large number of studies, it is revealed that not only negatively charged electrons but also positively charged holes are involved in the conductive process of the material. However, students' understanding of hole conduction is often relatively empty. Therefore, a variable temperature Hall effect test system is designed for the experiments of senior students in the physics department, material department, electronics department and other related departments. The Hall effect system has been improved several times, fully considering the cost performance and the safety requirements of the student experiment, and is extremely suitable for experimental teaching. It has the following characteristics:

◆ Use high sensitivity standard samples. The Hall voltage is high, and the measurement can be completed with a 5 and a half microvoltmeter. Therefore, the cost of the measurement system is greatly reduced.
◆ The reversible permanent magnet is specially developed for this experiment, and its cost is low, the use is safe, and the magnetic pole commutation is intuitive and convenient.

The variable temperature Hall effect experiment has been included in the low temperature and solid physics experiments of modern physics experiments.
